Guanwushan Pepper Fish Ecological Center
Introduction to Guanwushan Pepper Fish Ecological Center
Located in the Guanwu Recreation Area of Shei-Pa National Park, the Guanwu Salamander Ecological Center is the first ecological center in Taiwan dedicated to the endangered Guanwu salamander, established on April 21, 2012. The center features themed exhibition areas, an ecological video area, an environmental education park, and a salamander ecological image plaza. Combined with habitat ecological trails, it comprehensively presents the distribution, habitat, and current status of habitat restoration efforts for the Guanwu salamander, allowing visitors to better understand this precious endemic species of Taiwan. The Guanwu Salamander Ecological Center is situated next to the Guanwu National Forest Recreation Area Visitor Center, at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters. Summer temperatures reach only around 25 degrees Celsius, making it a cool and pleasant place to escape the heat; winter temperatures hover around 10 degrees Celsius, so visitors should dress warmly. Because the Guanwu area is often shrouded in mist and fog, exuding a mysterious and romantic atmosphere, it is an excellent spot for viewing sunrises, clouds, and high-altitude terrain. Therefore, the park has multiple trails offering stunning natural scenery throughout the four seasons. The most relaxing trail, the "Cloud and Mist Trail," offers clear views of the sacred ridgelines of mountains such as Dabajian Mountain and Xueshan Mountain. Located behind the Guanwushan Salamander Ecological Center, it is less than 1 kilometer long and takes only about 30 minutes round trip. It is a trail that visitors to Guanwushan should not miss.
